Affiliate Marketing: 5 SEO Tips For Blogging

A well SEO optimised blog can bring in a lot of targeted traffic for the affiliate marketing practitioner. We all know that receiving visits from people who are interested in a particular niche provides an audience to sell to and can lead to success with income building. These blogging search engine optimisation tips can go a long way in getting you the traffic that you are looking for:

Use keywords in your URLs.
Using search engine friendly URLs can be one of the quickest ways to appear in search engine results. Check your blogging software for an automatic setting that will do this task for you - it’s called custom permalinks and can be found in the settings of Wordpress.

Use keywords in the body of text.
Don’t over-do this, but by adding keywords at a rate of 1-4% of content can get you noticed by the search engines. Also use photos that have been saved using the keyword that you want to appear for. Use the ALT img tag on images to add the keyword too. Keep this in mind for any other blog sites that you use for your affiliate marketing efforts.

Use Google’s keyword tool.
Once you’ve selected your keyword using this tool, then take a note of the other words that appear. These are known as LSI or Latent Semantic Indexing words. They are closely related to your keyword choice and can help you get found and ranked.

Regularly update your blog.
Writing content is going to the toughest part of keeping your blog. You can either ask others to write for you - guest posters or outsourcing, or do it yourself. The latter will be most rewarding but the hardest. If you know your topic area well, then see what you can do to create some pillar posts. These posts are of unique and original content but are highly linkable and share-worthy. Where possible promote your products and use your affiliate marketing links.

Use meta tags.
If you’re using Wordpress you might want to use the SEO in One plug-in. Then you can use meta tags such as meta description and keywords to give extra search power to your blog post.

Create back links to your content.
You can use anchor text to confirm that the content of your blog post is related to your keywords. If you decide to outsource this task, then be sure that any links created are of high quality. You can link to blogs, social bookmarking, articles and Squidoo pages, amongst other sites.

Make the most of your H1s.
Actually H1, H2 and H3 tags can all help with reaffirming the keyword for your post. Personally I prefer using Wordpress as my blogging software as it makes using all tags easy to do.

Add the keyword at the beginning and the end.
It’s key to use your keyword in the first sentence of your blog post. You should also use it in the last sentence too.

Keep going.
If you don’t receive immediate results with your blogging efforts, don’t lose heart. As with all affiliate marketing - you just have to keep on keeping on for best results.
